Starting Point 2

We will take an ordinary float to start with, The Waggler, in fact a Straight Waggler.

I have shown below how it is simply rigged

Then in the absence of any water get out in an open space, away from anyone so they don't get hurt, it is obviously better if you have water.

Described below is a simple cast, there are others, we can look at them later, but whilst you are practising, imagine you may want to fish in a confined space, to either side or above, see what works for you, there are several different ways to cast, but the ones that suit you are the best.

Hold the rod in your favoured arm, release the bale arm on the reel, holding the spool with a finger on the hand of that arm, lift the rod so it is pointing upwards, slightly angled to the side to allow the rigging to drop away from the rod and not get tangled up in it.

Then flick or pull the rod down towards a horizontal position, towards the area you wish to cast, as the rod starts to achieve the horizontal position, the rigging and float will pass the end of the rod tip, lift your finger from the spool, allowing the line to run from the spool and your rigging to travel towards the area you want it to go, at about the horizontal rod position re-engage the bale arm by turning the reel handle, preventing any more line from leaving the spool.

This explanation is hard to understand, get out there and play, rod control is an amazing way of being comfortable with your fishing, there is nothing nicer than a cast that goes exactly where you want it to go, who needs to catch fish, but then there's the wind and tree hazards and .................., it's so much fun.
